Beautiful Scenery Meets Rich History in Brownstown
Located south of Detroit at the mouth of the Detroit River and Lake Erie, Brownstown Charter Township is part of the collection of towns and townships along the river known as “Downriver”. The township takes its name from a tribal elder of the Wyandot Indians who signed several treaties with the American government during the War of 1812—a tribal elder who was actually an American kidnapped and raised by Indians as a child. Today, the township is divided into three segments, one of which sits directly on the shores of the Detroit River.
